About Us: Batleys Today
Why Shop at Batleys?
Batleys is one of the leading cash & carry groups with 19 depots nationwide. A depot is never too far away, offering customers an extensive range of products from key suppliers. This combined with the alternative own label ranges ensures we have your needs covered. We are an innovative forward thinking company attending to the needs of the independent retailer, caterer and pet retailer.
At Batleys we keep our customers happy, in turn allowing you to keep your customers happy.
Supporting the Independent Trader
Batleys support the independent retailer and caterer by operating a strictly trade only policy. Over the years the independent trader has faced many threats and challenges to their business, but Batleys have remained true to their trade only policy and will strive to offer the best possible support to their existing and new customers for many years to come.
Charity Involvement
Batleys petfood Cash and Carry is proud to announce that they are a member of the Petcare Trust. This charitable organisation promotes and trains on the importance of pet welfare and is a registered pet charity. We feel the partnership with the Trust will allow us to further support the pet business.
Batleys are proud associates of Caravan, the charity for grocery people. Caravan currently assists around 1,300 former grocery industry workers whom for various reasons have fallen on hard times.
About Us: Brief History
Lawrence Batley OBE developed the concept of Cash and Carry in 1958, when he opened the first Cash and Carry depot in the UK in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The original company name was “Come and Get it”.
Over 50 years later the Batleys chain of Cash and Carrys has grown to the extent there are now 19 depots throughout the UK.
In 2005 Batleys was acquired by Bestway Holdings Ltd, increasing the total number of trading depots to 50 - making the group the second largest cash and carry wholesale trader in the UK.
In October 2005 Batleys launched a delivered petfood operation in Exeter, offering a delivery service of petfoods only within a specific local radius. Trading as BestPets, this delivery service has been rolled out to eight other locations, Newcastle, Coventry, Glasgow, Nottingham, Cardiff, Southampton Bristol and Gillingham with more to follow.
